Some explanation
Sweden |
The country Sweden is in stage four of the demographic transition. There is a very high percentage of elderly people living there but, the mean age is 41 so there is a large amount of the population still at working age. A problem for Sweden is its low population growth rate and fertility rate. Women are more focused on getting an education then having children right away. Sweden is a good example of a country that industrializes as it moves up in the stages but its population growth rate declines.
Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo is in stage two of the demographic transition model. The country suffers from a low percent of access to clean water and a high infant mortality rate because they have been in a persistent civil war. There is a low population growth and the doubling time would take 27 years. The Democratic Republic of Congo is not very economically developed, and unfortunately will be in Stage two for longer.
